Acne scarring, new or old can be upsetting and difficult to come to terms with. It can change how you see yourself physically and lower your self confidence levels.
Many of our patients describe feeling uneasy in certain lighting and as though they have to avoid being seen without make-up to conceal their acne scarring. Other patients describe having tried for many years to improve the appearance of the scars without good results and feel they have no confidence in finding an effective treatment. Until recent years acne scarring has been a very difficult skin condition to treat. Previously, only moderate improvements have been seen in people undergoing a limited choice of very aggressive procedures. Here at the 111 Harley Street Clinic we offer the latest advancements in acne scarring technology. This procedure is called FRAXEL laser and it actually really works! How does Fraxel Laser Work?FRAXEL laser uses pinpoints of laser light to ‘remodel’ the scar tissue. It sheers through the bulky scar formation and stimulates new, better quality collagen to grow. Over approximately six months your acne scarring will flatten, contract, reduce and fade out. This results in a much less obvious skin issue and a more confident you! How many Treatments will I Need?Scars normally require 5 treatment sessions ideally spaced 2-4 weeks apart. The intensity of your treatment will be decided upon during your consultation and assessment to ensure you receive a safe and very effective result. Each laser session will take between 1 ½ - 2 hours. You will have a strong numbing cream applied to the area prior to treatment to ease any mild discomfort. What are the side-effects?Straight after treatment your scarring will look red and mildly swollen. The intensity and duration depends on how aggressive the treatment was and your particular healing characteristics. Other temporary side-effects may include minor itching, dry skin, peeling or flaking and a temporary bronzed skin appearance. You will be given specific instructions about what to expect and how to minimise the side-effects. FRAXEL laser for acne scarring can be safely used on all skin types and colours. The procedure itself is relatively simple with a recovery time of approximately only 4 days. For more information and to find out how FRAXEL could improve your acne scarring please contact the clinic for a free FRAXEL laser assessment and consultation.
