Expert Face lift Combining American and European Standards and Techniques
The natural ageing process can take its toll on your face. Collagen, which makes our skin plump and smooth, begins to decrease and elastin fibres, which provide our skin with its stretch and bounce, begin to wear away. All this combined with lifestyle factors, such as sun exposure, smoking and drinking, all make our face prone to sagging and wrinkles.
Yet your face doesn’t always have to reveal your true age. While a good skincare regime and a healthy lifestyle will help keep your skin looking brighter and more radiant, a face lift is one procedure which can help transform your face and leave you looking more youthful and refreshed.
Dr Alexandrides MD FACS is a facial specialist and expert in craniofacial surgery. He is renowned for performing multiple procedures during the same operation, such as a dual face and brow lift. By combining procedures Dr Alexandrides is able to deliver the maximum transformation with the minimum possible recovery time.
It’s important that you thoroughly research the procedure and choose the right surgeon for your operation. This is not a procedure you should rush into, therefore we recommend you take the time to meet many surgeons and formulate a careful decision after fully understanding the risks and benefits associated with a face lift. You should only consider surgeons who have the highest levels of surgical training and expertise, make you feel comfortable and fully understand your needs and wishes.
A face lift takes approximately three hours and is performed under general anaesthetic. An overnight stay in hospital is usually required.
The incision usually begins just above the hairline at the temples, extends in a natural line in front of the ear, or just inside the cartilage at the front of the ear and continues behind the earlobe to the lower scalp. If the neck also requires work, a small incision may also be made under the chin.
In general, the surgeon separates the skin from the fat and muscle below. Fat may be trimmed or suctioned from around the neck and chin to improve the contour of the jawline. The underlying muscle and membrane will be tightened, the skin will be pulled back and any excess will be removed. Stitches secure the layers of tissue and close the incisions, metal clips may be used on the scalp.
Following surgery, a small thin tube will be temporarily placed under the skin behind your ear to drain any blood that may collect there. Your head will be wrapped straight after surgery to minimise bruising and swelling.
Even though newer techniques are believed to help reduce post-operative discomforts, you may still experience some pain. For a few days after your face lift you are likely to feel tired and sore, so you should arrange time off work and plan to take it easy for at least a week after surgery
You should try to keep your head elevated and as still as possible for a couple days after surgery. Your bandages, if used, are usually removed after one to five days, and the stitches and clips are removed within the first week to fourteen days after surgery depending on how you are healing. Bear in mind it may take you weeks, or months to recover fully.
While a face lift cannot delay the ageing process, it can give you a more youthful, well rested appearance. If you don’t feel ready for surgery yet, you can learn more about our non-surgical face tightening treatments here.
