Smoothing the appearance of cellulite by treating skin quality, laxity and dimpling together.
Cellulite is a common cosmetic skin concern that creates a dimpled, uneven, or orange-peel appearance, most often on the thighs, buttocks, and hips, though it can also affect the abdomen and upper arms. It develops when fat beneath the skin pushes upwards against the fibrous connective tissue bands that attach the skin to deeper structures. Where these bands pull down while fat pushes up, the surface develops dimples, depressions and uneven texture, ranging from mild dimpling visible only in certain positions to more established depressions that remain at rest.
Cellulite is not a sign of poor health, being overweight or being inactive. People with a low body fat percentage and very fit individuals can still develop it, because connective tissue structure, genetics, skin thickness, hormones and age all play a role alongside fat distribution. It is considerably more common in women because connective tissue and fat are organised differently, although men can develop it too.
With age, declining collagen and thinning skin can make the underlying structure more visible, and weight changes can alter its appearance without removing the fibrous bands responsible.
At 111 Harley Street, we assess cellulite by severity, location, skin quality, and the degree of tissue laxity before recommending a personalised treatment plan, often combining approaches.
