Repairing the visible effects of UV exposure, from pigmentation and lines to loss of firmness.
Sun damage refers to the cumulative effects of ultraviolet radiation on the skin. Over time, repeated sun exposure can alter the skin’s structure, accelerate visible ageing, and increase the risk of skin cancer. This premature ageing process is known as photoageing, and unlike intrinsic ageing, which develops naturally, it is driven by lifetime UV exposure from the sun and artificial sources such as tanning beds.
Both types of UV play a role:
A tan is itself a protective response to UV injury rather than a sign of healthy skin; there is no completely safe suntan from UV exposure. As damage accumulates, it can appear as fine lines and wrinkles, age spots and uneven pigmentation, rough texture, redness and visible blood vessels, crepey skin and a gradual loss of firmness, most noticeably on the face, neck, décolletage, hands, shoulders and arms. Some of these visible signs can improve, though UV damage cannot always be fully reversed, and any new, changing, or unusual lesion should be medically assessed before aesthetic treatment.
At 111 Harley Street, we assess sun-damaged skin for pigmentation, texture, vascular changes, lines, and laxity before recommending a personalised treatment plan, often combining approaches.
