A brow lift is a surgical procedure that aims to lift and reposition the eyebrows, restoring their youthful appearance. If you have sagging or droopy eyelids which may be affecting your eyesight, the procedure can also help to resolve this issue by elevating the brows and removing the excess skin. Depending on the approach, the procedure can also smooth out worry lines, even at rest. Those with hooded eyelids, brow asymmetry or excess skin under the brow may also find this procedure offers a solution to your aesthetic concerns.

    Brow Lift FAQ’s

The approach taken towards surgery depends on your aesthetic goals and concerns and facial anatomy of which, your surgeon will discuss with you during your consultation. In some cases, we may combine endoscopic and traditional brow lift techniques.

    Those who:

    • Sagging or excess skin on their upper eyelids whose vision might be impaired
    • Brow ptosis
    • Deep worry lines across forehead
    • Asymmetry of the eyebrows
    • Those looking to improve shape, symmetry and elevation of brows

The results will be visible immediately after the surgery, with the final shape showing at around the 7-month mark. A brow lift can improve the signs of ageing of the brows, but it cannot prevent it from happening. With natural ageing, your skin may continue to sag and become lax again over time.

The rate of recovery differs from patient to patient. Healing is a gradual process, and your surgeon will usually remove stitches within the first week to 14 days after surgery. You may require around two weeks off work.

The procedure typically takes one to two hours, depending on the extent of the operation.

All surgeries carry risk, and every incision leaves a scar. With endoscopic surgery, we can minimise the amount of scarring. A traditional brow lift may leave more visible scarring due to the longer incision and placement. This operation is more invasive, and so the duration of the surgery will also be longer. There’s also a possibility of hair loss.

Common side effects of the operation include itchy scalp, swelling, bruising and temporary numbness which should reside within two weeks. Numbness, however, can continue for up to a year.

    Brow Lift Approaches

    Traditional Forehead Lift

A traditional forehead lift makes a longer incision either along the hairline, a few millimetres along the hairline, or behind the hairline. Depending on the approach, this operation can also shorten the size of the forehead. This method of brow elevation gives the surgeon more control over the brow area and can provide more dramatic results.

    Endoscopic Brow Lift

An endoscopic forehead lift will adopt the use of a video camera and micro-instruments. This minimally invasive approach requires three or more small incisions concealed within the hairline. The endoscope helps guide the surgeon, allowing them to release the muscles that produce frown lines, simultaneously repositioning the eyebrows at a higher level.

The procedure can include some removal of underlying muscle and tissue. This  approach gives a more youthful appearance to the upper part of the face. It can also allow for shorter scars and less recovery time. The surgeon will wrap your head in bandages following the surgery, and you may have tubes to drain the fluid. Your stitches will be removed after 1-2 weeks.

    Botox Brow Lift

A non-surgical approach such as Botox can give subtle brow lifting results for patients who aren’t quite ready for surgery. Botox weakens specific parts of the brow to shape and elevate or lower them according to the patient’s desires. This technique can create a more youthful-looking eye area and can redefine the arch of the brow.

Due to the sensitive muscle function in this area, A Botox Brow Lift requires a highly-skilled injector who understands the underlying facial anatomy and muscle movement. They should be able to determine a suitable Botox dosage and identify the points where some muscles can be relaxed, while others can be recruited. The results can last around three to four months.

    Soft Thread Lift

At 111 Harley St., our patients have the advantage of having this non-surgical procedure with either a highly-trained, experienced and qualified nurse or surgeon. Both have a deep understanding of the facial anatomy, with our surgeon having a vast amount of experience in facial reconstructive surgery.

The procedure requires a local anaesthetic, minimising risk and downtime, and we can perform it within our safe and sterile in-clinic surgery facilities. Using dissolvable PDO threads, the surgeon or nurse can lift and reshape the eye and brow area.

The downside to this approach is that the results will not be as dramatic or as long-lasting as surgery.
