    Jaw Reshaping Before & Afters

    What is Jaw Reshaping?

The shape of the jaw plays an integral role in harmonic appearances, which is why Jaw Reshaping is a cosmetic issue a lot of our patients seek advice on. Whether you’re looking for a jaw augmentation, reduction, or non-surgical approach, we’ll be able to transform the appearance of your lower mandible seamlessly.

Often, Jaw Reshaping is prominently a surgical procedure that can resolve issues of asymmetry, disproportion or the over or under-prominence of the jawline. We also have an array of non-surgical avenues to consider – as it is our combination of both supreme surgical and non-surgical techniques that makes 111 Harley St. the superior aesthetic centre it is. Plus, it means that everything you could require is conveniently under one roof or apart of the 111 aesthetic family (including 111SKIN, 111CRYO and 111SPA/CLINIC).

Which Jaw Reshaping Procedure Is Right For Me?

One of the biggest benefits of Jaw Reshaping is that it’s very versatile – both in surgical techniques and technology – which has ensured we can treat a wide range of cosmetic and medical issues. Some of our Jaw Reshaping methods are:

    Jaw Augmentation

Also known as chin implants, this one way to enhance your facial proportion or improve your facial harmony – which is an especially popular treatment for anyone that is bothered by a small chin or lack of contour and definition. We often see male patients wanting to accentuate their jawlines with a Chin Augmentation as they are looking to create a stronger or squarer shape.

This procedure involves using anatomical implants, meaning they are ones that fit seamlessly to the bone. All our implants vary in shape, consistency, pliability, and size. They are made of the latest silicone and expanded polytetrafluorethylene technology that is helping drive the new future for plastic surgery – one that typifies the safe, ultra-innovative and industry-leading products our surgeons and patients love today.

This procedure involves making an incision inside of the mouth, discreetly along the crease that joins your lower lip and gum – to minimise any scarring so there will be no external signs of surgery. Then, your implant will be fitted to the bone, placed securely in the surgical pocket made.

Depending on the extent of the work needed, this procedure can be performed in our clinic under local anaesthetic or at a hospital under general anaesthetic.

    Jaw Reduction

Also known as a Chin Reduction, this procedure works to alter, sculpt, and shape the lower mandible. This is a minimally invasive, atraumatic procedure that employs the use of an ultrasonic instrument called a Piezo to improve the projection of the jawline.

A Piezo is renowned for its increased accuracy and precision and is a procedure Dr Yannis has been performing for years. Its ultra-innovative technology means it lastingly helps you achieve your ideal jaw shape and expertly sculpts without the long downtime traditionally associated with Jaw Reductions.

Some of the benefits of jaw reduction surgery are that it has minimal swelling, produces no external scarring, and has a shortened recovery time – where you’ll see massive improvements in appearance after only 1 week of post-surgery.

    Jaw Reshaping

A jaw reduction is often called V-Line Surgery; and as the name suggests, it works to create a desirable V-shape of the chin. It additionally helps to narrow the jawline for those who have a more square of shorter chin. It popular among our patients wanting to slim the lower face and create a well-defined point on the chin.

An oval shape is a popular female jawline surgery and another shape that is often sought out among women. Depending on the extent of the work needed, this procedure can be performed in our clinic under local anaesthetic or at a hospital under general anaesthetic.

    Other Options

We have a plethora of other options to consider too. Some are our:

    Masseter Botox Injections

Botox is one of the most well-known anti wrinkle injections, but when administered into the correct area, it can also act as a jaw slimming surgery alternative – one that can help you achieve a more angular, V-shaped appearance.

It is called masseter Botox as it is injected into the masseter muscle, which is present between the cheekbone and lower mandible. Once injected, it can help slim the face by reducing the movement of the masseter that contributes to a stronger jawline and lasts for around 6-8 months.

    Dermal Fillers

For those looking to accentuate or enhance the appearance of their lower face, Dermal Fillers offer a volumizing alternative to Chin or Jaw Augmentation. These are hyaluronic acid-based fillers which can be injected into the jawline to sculpt and create your ideal shape. This treatment that can be performed by either our Aesthetic Doctor or Nurse – depending on your preference.

    Fat Grafting

Known as Facial Fat Transfer, micro-grafting or ‘lipo-sculpting’, that works by utilising unwanted fat from your body and reintroducing it into the jawline or chin area to create more definition. It’s like a 2-in-1 procedure that enhances one area, while subtly removing fullness in another.

Fat Grafting works by using a cannula and an ultra-fine needle to delicately extract the fat cells by hand to preserve their natural state. Then, Dr Yannis will separate the living fat cells from any debris and re-inject pure fat into the desired area. One benefit of this procedure is that the fat can be extracted from most any area of the body, but some popular ones are the abdomen or the thighs.

    Submental Liposuction

This is a type of liposuction that only targets the lower face and is extremely effective in contouring and re-establishing a well-defined jawline and chin. It works by removing any excess fat around the neck and jawline that can contribute to a more recessed-looking lower face. Also known as double chin surgery, this is minimally invasive way to remove unliked lower facial fat and restore a taut front and side profile.

What Concerns Can Jaw Reshaping Treat?

    Some concerns are:

    • Weak Chin (medically known as retrogenia) – the process of the chin inclining inward, towards the neck, rather than protruding outwardly. For this concern, the best route may be Chin or Jaw Augmentation.
    • Asymmetry – Unequal proportions can conflict with facial harmony and may skew how the face looks as an aesthetic whole. Often, with this issue a combination approach is desirable, where Dr Yannis may perform both a Jaw Augmentation (chin implants) and Reduction to resolve any asymmetry present.
    • A strong jawline – While often a desirable trait, an overtly projected jawline may overwhelm your other facial features and make you feel less confident in yourself. With this concern, surgical intervention is necessary, and Dr Yannis will alter the bone by performing a Jaw Reduction.

Why Do I Have A Weak Chin?

A weak chin can be effortlessly resolved cosmetically, however sometimes it can be an indication or sign of the following:

    • The mandible is out of alignment
    • You may have a congenital deficiency
    • A pronounced overbite
    • Age-related bone absorption – can also be a big indicator to why your chin and jawline looks less defined than it once did

    What Happens Next?

Each Jaw Reshaping procedure is unique and always begins with a consultation. It is during this time you’ll be able to outline your concerns and what you’d like to achieve from your 111 Harley St. experience. It is also when Dr Yannis will analyse your jaw and assess the aesthetic routes that will benefit you most, this often includes taking photographs of your face from both the front and side profiles to help Dr Yannis visualise the possible surgical interventions necessary.

    Jaw Reshaping FAQs

At 111 Harley St., no Jaw Reshaping is the same as we can incorporate a Jaw Reduction, Jaw Augmentation or a combination of surgical and non-surgical approaches to create your ideal look.

Depending on the extent of the work needed, we may operate under general or local anaesthetic and this is always decided as a case-on-case procedure. If you do require general anaesthetic, you will have to come to one of our partnering clinics that has an extensive theatre. You can be assured that you’ll never have to stay overnight.

Generally with Reduction or Augmentation, the surgeon will make incisions inside the mouth to avoid scarring will alter the structure by removing and reshaping the bone and removing excess tissue. Or with Chin Implants, they will make an incision in the mouth and fix the implants in place. Then, dissolvable sutures will close the incision, and the remaining structure will be secured.

This procedure is suitable for anyone who wishes to reshape or reduce the size of their chin or jaw. It’s a popular surgery of choice for our Asian patients who want to attain a V-shaped silhouette to their face shape.

Depending on your aesthetic goals, we may recommend combining the operation with a surgical procedure like buccal fat removal and submental liposuction  to reduce fat in the lower cheeks and face.

Or, if you’re not suitable for surgery, we have plenty of non-surgical alternatives to help redefine the jawline like Botox for the masseter muscles or dermal fillers. However, these options do not provide a permanent solution, and you’ll need to repeat the treatment.

There will be an immediate change in the size and shape of your jawline and chin if you choose a surgical approach. The final results can be seen around 3-6 months.

With non-surgical injectables, you’ll also see an instant impact, but it will take a few weeks for the final results to settle them to be seen.

After the operation, we will require you to wear a facial compression support garment. Your face will initially swell and should resolve and look better day by day.

We will advise you to follow a soft diet for the first few weeks after your operation. You may experience discomfort and pain, numbness and significant swelling during this time. You should be able to return to work and resume exercise after two to three weeks.

This depends on the route you wish to take. For surgical procedures this can vary from 1-2 hours and for non-surgical treatments it can be from 15-60 minutes.

Thanks to massive advancements in Jaw Reshaping procedures, any risks are very low thanks to the use of ultrasound technologies like the piezo.

For Jaw Augmentation, the risks are also decreased because of our innovative ImplantTech implants that are anatomical – meaning fit seamlessly to the bone.
