    Tip Refinement (Mini Rhinoplasty)

111 Harley St. are rated an average of 5 out of 5 based on 1376 reviews

Tip Rhinoplasty is a minor surgical procedure, usually performed under local anaesthetic, that can alter the nasal tip.

When the tip of the nose is changed through a nose tip surgery, it can produce dramatic results. As this is often thought of as the most visible part of the nose, this type of Rhinoplasty, and can have a transformative effect on your facial aesthetic, which is why we like to call this procedure our Mini Rhinoplasty – because it can produce a similar result to a full operation without the associated downtime.

Nose Tip Surgery Before & After Photos

How Tip Rhinoplasty is done can differ depending on whether you are combining a Mini Rhinoplasty with other surgeries, such as Jaw Reduction for example, but generally when performed on its own it is performed under local anaesthetic in our Harley Street theatre. If you are combining a Nose Tip Surgery with another more invasive procedure, then your procedures will be performed back-to-back under general anaesthetic in one of our partnering hospitals.

How does Nose Tip Surgery work?

A Tip Nose Surgery works to remove the cartilage of the nose, called the lower lateral cartilage, which is what you feel when you gently pinch the end of your nose. The most suitable candidate for this procedure would be someone that is mostly happy with the overall structure of their nose, the bridge, the way their nose projects outwards and the width of it, but is not completely happy with how the tip looks.

This procedure, which will be performed by our Founder & Medical Director Dr Yannis Alexandrides MD FACS, can be performed in either an Open or Closed technique. While both are similar techniques, one can be more advantageous, or more preferred by the surgeon. For example, with an Open technique, this can be helpful in making more structural changes to the nose or alar cartilage. From a patient perspective, however, the biggest differences between the Open and Closed Rhinoplasty are that during an Open Rhinoplasty, the surgeon will make an incision across the septum, whereas during a Closed Rhinoplasty, all incisions are made within the nostrils – so there will be no external, visible scars.

    How is Rhinoplasty performed?

A Nose Tip Surgery can usually be performed in around one hour during which Dr Yannis will remove small amounts of cartilage, on either side of the nose to give you your desired result.

Once the procedure is complete and depending on how much work has been done to the nose, Dr Yannis will either use steri strips to dress the nose afterwards or create a small splint for the nose. Then, after around one week, you’ll come back to see our Surgical Nurses (who you would have already met during the surgery and at your first Pre-Op appointment), and they will remove your nose cast.

    Tip Refinement Rhinoplasty FAQ’s

At 111 Harley St. we offer a complimentary 3D virtual consultation where the surgeon will manipulate an image of your nose using our simulation software to provide you with a visual indication of your post-operative rhinoplasty result.

This depends on the type of technique used during the Mini Rhinoplasty and beforehand Dr Yannis will outline where he’ll make the incisions. Common Rhinoplasty stiches are either made within the nose – where he’ll use dissolvable stiches which are naturally broken down by the body as the skin heals – or around the nostrils or across the septum.

This is something that will be discussed during your consultation as there are some types of Nose Surgery that are best for you and some that won’t be as effective in achieving your goals.

Other common types of Rhinoplasty are:

Preservation Rhinoplasty (Piezo Rhinoplasty)An ultra-advanced version of the Rhinoplasty that harnesses the power of a Piezo. A Piezo is an instrument that emits ultrasonic wavelengths directly to the bone to trim and sculpt – without disrupting the nerve endings and causing dramatic trauma. Also known as an ‘ultrasonic Piezo rhinoplasty‘ it works within the nose and offers more accuracy, finesse and faster recovery.

    Reduction Rhinoplasty

This surgery aims to reduce the overall size and volume of the nose. Reducing the size of the nose can dramatically improve the proportions and visual harmony of the face. The approach to surgery usually involves reducing the size of the nostrils, and we’ll also resolve irregularities and bumps on the bridge of the nose if necessary.

    Augmentation Rhinoplasty

Augmentation rhinoplasty, also known as nose correction surgery, involves altering the nose to improve its shape. This approach would be suitable for patients who feel that their nose lacks definition, length, or has another undesirable shape. It’s also suitable for those with congenital abnormalities. This surgery enhances and augments the nose by using autogenous tissues or a silicone implant. The surgeon may decide to perform bone grafting on the nose to recreate the tip.

    Alar Reduction

Alar Reduction (also called an Alarplasty) focuses on the width of the base of the nose and nostrils. During this procedure, the surgeon would narrow the width of the nostril base.

    Revision Rhinoplasty

Dr Yannis Alexandrides has extensive experience in reconstructive surgery and in craniofacial reconstructive surgery and has performed multiple corrective operations on patients with severe injuries and congenital abnormalities.

    Septorhinoplasty

A septorhinoplasty reshapes your nose and your septum (the cartilage that divides the two nostrils inside the nose). It can alter the appearance of your nose and improve breathing difficulties. This type of surgery addresses both aesthetic and medical concerns.

The ideal procedure for a nose reconstruction surgery would be someone who wishes to make changes to the appearance of their nose due to its shape or size or is having breathing difficulties.

Yes, in a positive way! Rhinoplasty surgeries, especially performed by one of the best Plastic Surgeons in the UK, can rebalance the facial features, and has an enhancing effect to the patient’s natural beauty and facial ratio.

Usually, a Rhinoplasty helps to improve breathing and often a lot of Dr Yannis’ patients state that prior to their Rhinoplasty, they had breathing difficulties and after their Rhinoplasty, respiration is improved. This is because Dr Yannis can help widen the nasal canals, making breathing through the nose easier.

Improvements will be visible upon the removal of your cast. Over six months to a year, your nose will continue to change shape. During this time, swelling should reduce and you should start to see the final results towards the end of 1 year.

With all surgeries there is a degree of risk, however, this risk is dramatically reduced when factors such as the surgeon’s experience, how long your surgeon has been practising, their medical qualifications, an excellent surgical team and state-of-the-art technology used, are taken into consideration.

If you do not like your Rhinoplasty results, we can do a Revision Rhinoplasty which is outlined in our Patient Promise. We do, however, ask our patients to wait at least twelve months as during the healing, your nose is still settling into its new shape which can take up to a year

The speed of recovery varies from patient to patient. We may require you to wear a nasal splint for the first week following your operation.

Swelling and significant bruising around the eye and nose area may occur and will continue to improve over the course of 2-3 weeks. Discomfort may be felt during this time. Numbness felt at the tip of the nose is normal, and will resolve over a few weeks. Some patients can experience a stuffy sensation up the nostrils, and the nose may become runny with fluid or blood.

No, we will ensure that during your Nose Job that you won’t feel discomfort. However, as a Tip Refinement is usually performed under local anaesthetic, you will be awake and may feel some sensations, but they should not be painful.

It’s also important to say that during most local anaesthetic surgeries performed at 111 Harley St., your eyes will be covered, and we often play music as this helps to make our patients feel more relaxed.

I really think highly of the aesthetic judgement of the nurse in 111Harley street as I received non-surgical rhinoplasty there. It’s very natural, not exaggerated. And the service there is excellent! It’s friendly to foreign customer since Miss Bonnie is a brilliant and patient interpreter.

I underwent a open Septorhinoplasty on the 9th of January. I turned 25 a few days before my op I couldn’t think of a better way to start a new decade and chapter in my life. This is something I really wanted done for ten years and I’m really happy I finally got round to getting it done. 3 weeks post op currently and I can’t wait to see how the remaining 12 months go.
