    Chemical Skin Peels FAQs

The treatment begins with a consultation where your practitioner will assess your skin to decipher your skin conditions and the best course of treatment.

Certain peels like Cosmelan or Enerpeel may require skin preparation with the use of at-home products in the lead up to your appointment. Your practitioner will prescribe a list of recommended products that will be suitable for you or provide you with the appropriate preparation kit.

If we’re treating you with a Cosmelan peel, we’ll require you to use a prepping de-pigmentation kit before your initial treatment to prepare your skin for the peel.

During your treatment, your practitioner will double cleanse and prepare the skin by applying a barrier cream around sensitive areas and remove all sebum to aid penetration of the acids.

Following this, we will apply the peel of choice and leave it on for a few minutes before neutralising or removing the peel. A neutraliser will prevent the acid from working on the skin, whereas a removal wipe will leave the acid active on the skin to continue improving the complexion following treatment.

Chemical skin peels are suitable for anyone who is looking for overall skin rejuvenation and an improvement in skin tone and texture. Or, those who have:

    • Acne
    • Acne scars
    • Pigmentation and sun-spots
    • Mild actinic keratosis
    • Moderate wrinkles or fine lines
    • Rosacea
    • Large or open pores
    • Crepey skin

As the skin begins to heal and regenerate, you should start to see an improvement in the condition, tone and texture of your complexion. This process can take from 1 week – 4 months depending on the severity of the peel. For milder peels, we recommend a series of treatments to see the best results, whereas stronger peels may only require one treatment.

Milder and more superficial peels have little to no downtime. You may experience slight redness after treatment which will subside over a few hours.

Moderate to deep peels require more downtime from 7-10 days. You may experience mild flaking, peeling or frosting depending on the peel. As your skin builds up a tolerance to skin peels, the downtime can reduce.

The duration of the treatment will depend on your custom needs. Some peels may be left on for longer, depending on your needs and tolerance to treatment. Typically, it’ll take around 30 minutes.

    • Redness
    • Scarring
    • Pigmentation
    • Infection

The number of peels will vary depending on the type. For milder peels, we recommend a course of 3-6 sessions whereas you may only require one session for a deeper peel.

Chemical skin peels vary in strength and substance and are either superficial, medium or deep depending on your skin concerns and skin type.

The acids and other active compounds react with the skin and dissolve the outermost layers of the skin to reveal a fresher, clearer and brighter complexion. Chemical skin peels also promote collagen and elastin growth that will encourage the growth of healthier skin.

Chemical skin peels can make the skin feel slightly tingly and hot on the skin as they are removed or neutralised. After this, the heat begins to dissipate as your PH levels return to normal.

Chemical skin peels can be suitable for all skin types. Still, the peel type, neutralisation method, duration of the treatment and strength of peel will vary. These variations depend on your skin tone (which we determine through the Fitzpatrick scale), your concerns, treatment goals and other contraindications.

Someone with darker skin is at higher risk of developing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. To avoid the risks, we always tailor the peel to suit the skin.

When the skin is strong enough, we can apply stronger peels, and the patient will benefit from less downtime and an improvement in treatment results.

At 111 Harley St., we can also provide a custom product prescription to fortify for skin before your treatment programme and ensure a more consistent and predictable outcome from the chemical skin peels.

    Types Of Peels

    Enerpeel SA
Best for: acne – oiliness, blocked pores, large pores, post-acne inflammation, chest and back acne, inflamed pustules and papules, inflammation and redness.

Enerpeel SA contains salicylic acid with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties with the ability to kill 96% of acne bacteria. The peel provides a profound cleansing effect that removes excess sebum, dead skin cells and debris. It’s proven to work faster at reducing oil than antibiotics without unwanted side effects. The peel can also work to soften lines and treat signs of sun damage. It’s also suitable for the chest and back.

Its anti-inflammatory abilities will de-sensitise the skin to make it more resilient for future peels and to fight free radical damage. It will also boost the complexion’s ability to retain moisture for an improvement in skin hydration.

    Enerpeel MA
Best for: skin redness, spider veins, rosacea, pigmentation and sun damage.

This skin peel has antibacterial properties, making it ideal for those who have redness, rosacea and vascular issues. Mandelic acid dissolves dead skin cells to resurface ageing and sun-damaged skin. The Enerpeel MA is a low-risk peel and is suitable for those who are at risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

    Enerpeel JR
Best for: hyperpigmentation, pregnancy mask, actinic keratosis, and melasma.

Combining salicylic acid, resorcinol acid and lactic acid, this peel is ideal for pigmentation and other signs of sun damage. A duo of molecules normalises pigment production while removing excess pigment. It’s especially useful for treating pigmentation that occurs due to hormone changes like pregnancy or ageing.

    Enerpeel PA
Best for: rough skin texture, crepey skin, wrinkles, sun damage, and acne scars.

Enerpeel® PA uses pyruvic acid to remodel skin to improve rough skin texture and other signs of ageing and sun damage. As an Alpha Keto acid, the peel helps to repair acne scars and reduces sebum production to prevent further acne formation.

    Enerpeel Eyes and Lips
Best for: lines around the eyes and mouth, dark circles, mild pigmentation and sun-spots around the eyes and melanin moustache.

This skin peel contains two acids that work to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and dark spots in these sensitive areas. The practitioner will apply the peel in layers to increase the strength while protecting the delicate skin. It has a remodelling ability and has a more predictable outcome when it comes to avoiding post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

    Enerpeel TCA
Best for: rough skin texture, uneven skin tone, scarring, ice pick scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and dark spots.

The TCA solution peel is a medium to deep peel that remodels the skin to improve skin tone and texture. The Enerpeel carrier solution delivers the acids deep into the skin, working from the inside out. As the skin remodels, new cells replace old skin cells for a smoother and more supple complexion.
