Created in 2019, Aqualyx is an FDA-approved fat dissolving injection highly endorsed by Dr Yannis and our Aesthetic Nurse Prescriber, Claudia. It is a liquid solution that contains the active ingredient, deoxycholate, which works to break down and emulsify the membrane of the fat cells. Deoxycholate is a bile acid that is created during metabolic activity and when injected into fatty depositions of the body, this advanced, non-surgical solution works to reduce unwanted fat in areas that are often resistant to diet and exercise, no matter how rigorous the efforts are.

Our fat dissolving injections eliminate stubborn areas of fat that collect in areas such as under the chin, on the thighs, knees, back (bra rolls) and on the pectorals which is a condition that affects men called Gynecomastia.

When fat dissolving injections are complemented by a healthy lifestyle, you can experience the benefits of fat reduction faster. Every treatment at 111 Harley St. begins with a consultation with our Head of Non-Surgical Department, Kerstie, where during this time, she will discuss your aesthetic goals and expectations. Kerstie will also discuss your medical history to determine whether your expectations are realistic and confirm whether this treatment is the most suitable choice for you. Choosing to have Aqualyx in London is a popular treatment for the ‘double chin’, as this type of subcutaneous fat is particularly hard to eliminate, and in some cases, Aqualyx can become a great non-surgical alternative to Submental Liposuction.

If you are deemed a suitable candidate for treatment, we’ll assess the desired treatment areas and once you come in for treatment, the Aqualyx will be administered via a syringe. A topical numbing cream may be applied to minimise discomfort.

    Aqualyx London FAQ’s

On the day of your treatment, you’ll arrive at either our Harley St. or Devonshire Place clinic – this will be confirmed in your booking e-mail so please be sure to check the address on the day.

When you get to our clinic, our Aesthetic Nurse Prescriber, who will be administering the treatment, will greet you and take you to one of our treatment rooms to begin your treatment.

She will then clean and mark the area. By creating a grid on the skin, she can ensure each area has been treated evenly. She will then begin injecting and massaging the area.

Aqualyx is often described as having a tingling or stinging sensation when injected, so you can expect some discomfort during the treatment but it will not be unbearable.

Lemon Bottle Injections have took the internet by storm recently and work in a similar way to Aqualyx. However, while Aqualyx is made of deoxycholate acid which is an FDA-approved method to emulsify fat, Lemon Bottle Injections are made of Riboflavin which is a form of Vitamin B2 and does not have FDA approval yet.

You can read Dr Yannis’ opinion of Lemon Bottle Injections in the Grazia article he was recently featured in. However, his key takeaway was:

“Lemon Bottle fat dissolving injections may be trending on social media but my personal assessment and initial research finds no scientific papers to support the efficacy and safety of this product.”

“At present, the current research is too flimsy for me to feel safe and confident to offer this treatment myself. New non-surgical treatments like this one need to be properly assessed and scrutinised by scientific publications. When treatments are non-surgical, it can sometimes give people a false sense of security, and they don’t realise that there are possible side effects that can be triggered, such as necrosis – a form of cell injury that can lead to the death of tissue – especially if you do not go to a qualified prescriber.

For our triple board-certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Dr Yannis, he recommends Aqualyx, which has undergone the rigorously trials needed to gain FDA and EEA licensing in the UK. Alternatively, he also recommends safe Liposuction.

Candidates will see the best results if they have an active and healthy lifestyle that they will maintain following the treatment.

Aqualyx will work to shift resistant localised fat that has been hard to eliminate through diet and exercise alone.

Aqualyx is not a weight-loss treatment. It will work best for those that are already in relatively good shape and lead a healthy lifestyle. It’s an ideal treatment for those who are looking for a non-surgical alternative to Accent Prime Skin Tightening or fat-reducing surgery like Liposuction or VASER Lipo.

*Please note this treatment is unsuitable for those that are overweight or pregnant, have lipodystrophy, diabetes or kidney disease.

Results may be seen after just one treatment – depending on the size of the area treated and usually the best results ares seen around four to five weeks after.

If the area is large, such as the stomach, we do recommend a course of treatments to give you the best fat-reduction results.

Some factors that effect the final result would be how much pre-existing fat you have, your age, lifestyle, the stability of cell membranes, and whether you gain weight after treatment.

We encourage you to maintain a stable weight following your Aqualyx treatment to have the best benefit from the results.

The treatment takes approximately 20 minutes. However, this can increase depending on the size and amount of areas that require treatment.

We recommend one treatment spaced every six weeks as this gives the body time to heal as well as expel the dead fat cells through the lymphatic system.

General side effects of the Aqualyx treatment include swelling, bruising, skin irritation, tenderness and redness.

    • Double chin (unwanted fat under chin)
    • Bra rolls (rolls of fat on back)
    • Fat pouches (men are prone to developing a fat pouch under navel)
    • Muffin top (unwanted fat on hips)
    • Thigh chafing (unwanted fat on inner thighs)

Subcutaneous fat can be extremely hard to shift. This type of fat often collects around the hips, thighs and buttocks for women, and on the stomach for men. Whilst some people will maintain a healthy lifestyle and endure vigorous exercise regimes, sometimes this isn’t enough to eliminate the fat in these areas.

The aqueous solution works to dissolve stubborn fat cells that liquify and leave the body through the lymphatic system.

Results vary from patient to patient. The permanency of the treatment is also variable depending on the patient’s aftercare efforts and limitations of treatment.

Patients may experience some degree of redness, swelling and bruising at the injection site. We advise you to avoid taking inflammation painkillers such as Ibuprofen before your Aqualyx treatment as this can worsen bruising. The nurse will advise the appropriate aftercare actions, and it is essential to follow their steps to minimise downtime. The swelling usually subsides after around three to five days.

For optimal results, a patient will require 3-8 sessions. These sessions should be every 6 weeks.
