    Managing Your Pigmentation Post-Summer

Although your summer adventures may be over and you’ve suddenly been introduced to a season of change, your skin may still be feeling the effects of the sun’s exposure. Experiencing tight, dehydrated or irritated skin or met with sun-induced pigmentation, sun spots or melasma, it is a result of photo damage that can appear anywhere on the face or body and is in fact most common in areas such as the face, neck, décolleté and hands.

    TYPES OF PIGMENTATION
Not all pigmentation is created the same as a result of the sun and in many cases knowing the difference between them, makes treatment that bit more transformative. Pigmentation is the overall term that refers to areas of the skin that are darker than the rest – through the overproduction of melanin (what gives the skin its pigment), it can become under duress when the sun’s UV rays cause a chemical imbalance within the skin’s cells.

The types of pigmentation to consider:
    – Melasma (dark patches that appear across the face and body)
    – Age Spots (small, flat and dark areas on the skin)
    – Hyperpigmentation (darker deposits of colour on the skin)
    – Hypopigmentation (lighter spots and patches on the skin than your overall tone)

    TREATING YOUR PIGMENTATION

Treating your pigmentation, although manageable, is rather tricky. What our in-clinic treatments aim to do is reduce the appearance of pigmentation and help to heal any damage within the skin’s cells by either stimulating collagen or increasing cellular turnover. It is vital to note, that the more you protect your skin from damage or exposure with regular application of SPF – the better your skin can defend itself from the harmful radiation.
