An Extensive Guide If Wanting To Try Microneedling

Fine needles being punctured into the skin? You may be wondering what are the benefits of this kind of treatment. A skin saviour, microneedling originally dates back to 1995 before seeing a consistent boom within the skincare and aesthetics industry for its improvement of acne scars, brightening and hydrating the skin. Let’s take a deep dive into the treatment …

    What is Microneedling
A non-surgical procedure that involves administering a collective of tiny needles to puncture the very first layer of the skin. The process is beneficial in skincare routines because this slight injury/trauma to the skin enables the skin’s natural healing processes to kick in. It boosts the skin’s collagen production which in turn brightens and evens, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, improves texture and rejuvenates the skin.

    Benefits of Microneedling

Microneedling is proven to help improve:
    – Acne
    – Hyperpigmentation
    – Large Pores
    – Reduced Skin Elasticity
    – Sun Damage
    – Fine Lines & Wrinkles

This is because the small wounds made to face create more collagen and elastin, this powerful combination helps to heal the skin but also the prime factors needed for cellular regeneration which improves the appearance of any old scars, PIH, uneven skin texture, dullness and premature ageing.

    Preparing for Microneedling

    Preparing for Microneedling

It is recommended, like with any other cosmetic procedure, to eliminate any excesses or potent ingredients beforehand, this includes any retinoids, steroids or intense topical treatments. Keeping your skin as calm and as balanced beforehand is advised by our 111Harley St. practitioners and similarly at least one week post procedure. That is not to say skincare acids can’t be applied, opting for soothing alternatives such as Hyaluronic Acid or Niacinamide to help support hydration and barrier strength is recommended.

What to expect in a Microneedling Session

What to expect in a Microneedling Session

Whilst pain is subject to each individual, during the in-clinic session, numbing cream will be applied to the skin before the needles are introduced in the session. Most often, people feel little to no pain and with the treatment lasting around 20-30 minutes, with no downtime required, the session is complete rather quickly.

    Side effect of Microneedling

    Any Side Effects to Microneedling

It is normal to experience slight redness after the treatment but that usually calms down in a few hours following the treatment. Similarly tiny post-procedural marks are common to notice but not to be alarmed as they do also disappear, alongside any itchiness on the skin.

All of the above side effects may or may not appear, it is dependent on each patient but to be aware of those with sensitive skin, this treatment may not be advised and seeking a consultation with our experts is highly advised.
