Chin Implant

During the consultation, your board-certified surgeon will discuss your implant options with you and whether you’ll be a suitable candidate for this operation. They’ll also outline the risks and recovery process and go over your medical history. There are different types of implants available that vary in consistency, pliability and size. We’ll look at all possible chin and jaw enhancing options to improve your facial balance. We may combine the procedure with surgical approaches like rhinoplasty and liposuction, or non-surgical options like Accent and Aqualyx. Alternatively, we may believe alternative surgical options may achieve better results, like a sliding genioplasty (where the surgeon will move the jaw bone forward).

A chin implant can be performed under local or general anaesthetic, depending on the patient’s and the surgeon’s decision. Dr Yannis Alexandrides makes an incision inside the mouth to avoid scarring. He will then insert the patient’s choice of implant within a pocket, or may fix the implant to the bone structure. We offer a wide array of high-tech implants to suit your needs. The incision will be closed with absorbable sutures.

A chin implant is suitable for anyone who suffers from a weak or recessive jawline or chin deficiency. You may also consider a chin implant if you feel that your facial proportions are unbalanced.

A receding jawline may indicate dental issues such as an overbite or could be a hereditary trait in which the mandible sits back behind the upper jaw. As you age, the cosmetic concern can worsen as the skin and soft tissues loosen around this area.

You’ll see immediate results but swelling is likely to occur. You’ll see the final results after around 3-4 months.

The recovery process varies from patient to patient, but many patients return to work within five days.

We advise patients to keep their heads elevated and as still as possible for a couple of days after surgery. Healing is a gradual process. You may notice some bruising around your chin and neck, which should subside 7-14 days after surgery.

The overall recovery usually take between 2-6 weeks. The sutures will dissolve naturally.

The duration of the procedure varies depending on the technique and type of anaesthesia, but typically 1-3 hours.
