With the ever-increasing demand for a shapelier silhouette, bigger buttocks, or more balanced proportions, our buttock augmentation techniques can help you reach your aesthetic goals. Many find that they cannot achieve the size and shape of the buttocks they desire with exercise and diet alone. Depending on your natural shape, a combination of surgical techniques can contour the buttocks and silhouette to fulfil your aesthetic goals. These methods include a buttock fat transfer otherwise known as a Brazilian buttock lift or BBL (with Liposonix or Liposuction/Vaser/BeautiFill), buttock implants, or a buttock lift.

    Buttock Augmentation FAQs

Your buttock augmentation journey with a consultation with esteemed surgeon Dr Yannis Alexandrides who will advise and discuss with you the best technique to reshape, resize, or lift the buttocks to meet your aesthetic goals.

Dr Yannis Alexandrides advocates a Brazilian butt lift over implants because he believes it provides more natural-looking results with lower risks. The operation is highly customisable in contrast to implants that cannot guarantee as much precision.

During your consultation, we will discuss the procedure approach. A buttock augmentation procedure usually requires general anaesthesia, and you may need to stay overnight, but we’ll typically perform the operation as a day case.

Your surgeon will draw temporary lines to indicate the incision site. For a BBL, the markings will indicate where the surgeon will extract fat from which commonly includes the stomach, hips, thighs, knees and back via a cannula which leaves little to no scarring.

The harvested fat will be spun in a centrifuge to separate the fat and blood and purify it, which will be re-injected into the buttocks to enhance the desired shape, size, and volume. The procedure may also involve excess skin removal.

The incision will be closed with sutures which are removed several days after the operation during your follow-up appointment.

If you decide on buttock implants, the method of insertion and placement will depend on your preferences, existing shape of your buttocks, and the surgeon’s recommendation. Depending on the type of implants, they will either be enveloped in fibre casing that surrounds the buttock muscles) or within the buttock muscle.

A single two to three-inch incision is usually made overlying the tailbone, though can also be made under the buttock cheeks or in between the buttock cheeks in some cases. Through this incision, a pocket is made just large enough for the implant, where each implant will sit. Dr Yannis prefers to position the implants under the gluteal muscle to look and feel as natural and symmetrical as possible.

With a buttock lift, the incision is usually hidden within the bikini line. The operation technique varies, but it will often involve removal of excess skin which is cut in a half-moon shape (to adhere to the shape of buttocks). The skin will be lifted to a perkier position to appear smoother and tighter.

Buttock augmentation is suitable for those wish to improve the shape or size of their buttocks or to enlarge their size. A buttock lift is ideal for those with excess skin and fat on their buttocks.

The results of a BBL will be instant. However, in the initial recovery phase, you may expect to see some reabsorption of the fat. The results will continue to improve, with the final outcome visible from around three months to a year.

If you have buttock implants, you may see some instant changes, but the final results from buttock implants will develop as you recover and heal from the procedure which is usually at around the three-month mark once the swelling and bruising subside.

A buttock lift will provide instant visible results, and you’ll see the final results develop with recovery over several months.

If you gain weight after a BBL, the fat should re-distribute evenly so the shape won’t experience dramatic changes in its shape with weight fluctuations.

The surgeon will inject small amounts of fat into different areas of the buttocks and at various depths so that the patient will benefit from the optimal absorption rate.

Other buttock augmentation results are permanent, though you may start to see changes within the buttocks with age and weight gain.

The speed of recovery varies from patient to patient. Your surgeon will advise and explain steps to ensure a smooth recovery and to encourage the healing process.

Patients can usually return home the same day after a buttock augmentation procedure. We may advise that you initially avoid sitting or lying on the buttocks for the first 48 hours to three weeks, depending on the surgeon’s recommendations.

We might recommend that you use a pressure-relieving cushion for several weeks after surgery and to wear a compression garment to help with swelling reduction and support of the skin. You may also need a surgical drain.

Swelling should resolve within approximately six weeks. The size of the buttocks may decrease slightly as the swelling subsides.

Patients should avoid strenuous activities for 2-3 weeks following the surgery. You can usually return to work within two weeks and may be able to drive at this point.

During your follow-up (after around 7-10 days), we will remove any sutures, drains and any dressings. You will require several follow-up visits in the months after surgery to check on your progress.

The procedure takes approximately two to five hours, depending on the technique and approach.

As with all surgeries, a buttock augmentation procedure does carry some risks and side effects. Implants have a higher risk rate than buttock fat transfer procedures.

Swelling, bruising, discomfort, mild bleeding and fluid drainage from the incisions are common side effects. You may see significantly more swelling and bruising with the buttock lift procedure or buttock implants than a buttock fat transfer.

Other side effects you may experience include (but are not limited to)

    • Fat embolism
    • Reabsorption of more fat than anticipated
    • Uneven or lumpy appearance
    • Loss or changes of sensation in buttocks
    • Anaesthesia risks
    • Pain or changes in sensation
    • Seromas and hematomas
    • Cyst formation
    • Infection
    • Seromas and hematomas
    • Suture irritation
    • Scarring
    • Implant rejection
    • Nerve damage
    • Wound healing problems

A BBL will leave minimal scarring and will become virtually undetectable over time.

The scars of buttock implant insertion may be firm and pink for at least six weeks and may remain the same size for several months. They can take up to two years to fade.

Since a buttock lift involves removing excess skin and fat, this type of buttock augmentation will leave the most amount of scarring, though the surgeon will conceal scarring strategically.

The type of buttock augmentation procedure that will be best for you will depend on several factors, including:

    • Your desired visual outcome and goals
    • The existing anatomy of your buttocks
    • Scarring and operation preferences
    • The look and feel of the implants
    • Your current body fat percentage, health, and lifestyle (smoking, diet, exercise etc.)
    • Skin quality and elasticity
    • Your budget
    • The recovery process/duration of time you can allow for surgery

    BBL (Brazilian Buttock Lift)

Considered the most natural approach to buttock augmentation, a buttock fat transfer (or ‘Brazilian butt lift’) could augment, lift, and shape the buttocks through transferring fat cells from unwanted areas of the body to the buttocks. This method of liposuction and transference of fat allows the surgeon to sculpt your figure and redistribute fat more desirably. For example, we can remove fat from the ‘muffin top’ (excess fat that sits on hips) and redistribute into the ‘hip dip’ (the depression at underwear line on hips) to create an hourglass shape.*

An expert buttock augmentation technique will help create a uniform appearance to the buttocks. While some of the fat may be reabsorbed, around 70-80% of the fat will remain, helping you to enlarge your buttocks and create a shapelier silhouette.

At 111 Harley St., we are pleased to offer BeautiFill – a more consistent system to harvesting fat cells. The new laser system allows us to withdraw more injectable fat of the highest quality, comparatively to traditional manual liposuction. This enhanced method can also help to improve the longevity of results.

*Please note, that results vary from patient to patient and depend on your existing shape and the amount of fat you have.

    Buttock Implants

A buttock implant procedure involves inserting and positioning implants depending on your preferences, anatomy, and Dr Yannis’ recommendation. The aim is usually to enhance the overall shape and size of the buttocks for the patient. This approach may be adapted if Dr Yannis Alexandrides does not believe he can achieve the results you’re looking for with a buttock fat transfer. Buttock implants are usually opted for when the patient does not have enough fat to opt for a BBL.

    Bum Lift

A bum lift is suitable for those who do not wish to increase the size of their buttocks. The surgery will improve the overall appearance of your buttocks by removing excess skin and fat to lift and shape the buttocks. If your aesthetic goals are overall buttock augmentation, then a buttock lift may be combined with additional operations such as a buttock fat transfer or buttock implants. The procedure is also often combined with a tummy tuck, or lower body lift.

Lastly, if you do not wish to add volume to your buttocks but wish to improve its shape, we can offer strategic non-surgical options. Liposculpture, Accent or Endermologie can give the illusion of lifted and shapelier buttocks non-surgically and improve the skin texture.

    Why 111 Harley St?

    • Each buttock augmentation surgery is unique. We take the entire body shape into consideration.Enlisting a highly-skilled surgeon is essential for this operation as it involves many micro-fat injections to achieve a uniform, smooth and natural appearance to the buttocks where possible.
    • We offer BeautiFill fat transference. This advanced method ensures energy is evenly distributed, and can remove fat cells in a precise, consistent and controlled way. The system ensures only the highest quality of fat cells are harvested, with a higher fat survival rate. It can also provide a skin tightening effect.
    • We combine the procedure with liposuction and fat injection. We also offer implants.
    • We use highly advanced techniques to offer long-term results, processing the fat in a way that reduces the chance of reabsorption.
    • We use power assisted cannulas and Vaser lipo for ultimate precision, definition and body contouring.
    • Dr Yannis Alexandrides was trained in Miami where he perfected his BBL technique. He believes safety and a natural appearance is of paramount importance. For that reason, he prefers to do a BBL instead of buttock implants as the operation provides more natural looking results, with less risks.

I had BBL surgery with 360 lipo in November (which I highly recommend by the way, Dr Yannis is a genius). After one week of feeling very sorry for myself, I finally went for my first LPG treatment (an intensive method of lymphatic drainage, and an alternative to the usual massage). Upon arrival, Rachael was so kind and welcoming and encouraging. I was still walking like an old lady, could hardly remove my garment, and still felt a little nauseous, but Rachael took immediate and wonderful care of me. She did an assessment, took me to their spa room, adjusted the temperature and lighting so that the atmosphere was calm and soothing, and she explained what we were going to do and how it was going to benefit my recovery. The treatment itself was sore at first, but only because I had a lot of bruising and swelling; as I got used to the feel of the LPG machine I could feel my body relax and give in. Rachael was such a lovely presence throughout and made me feel safe and cared for. After that first treatment, I was blown away at how I could stand and move and bend after a week of stiffness and discomfort from the liposuction. That sold me. I felt like I could breathe all of a sudden! And we both could see a visible reduction of the swelling. I decided then and there to do a treatment of 12 sessions, two a week for the foreseeable future. I am now on my 12th session and I cannot tell you what a difference it has made! My swelling is almost entirely gone, my skin has retracted beautifully, my waist continues to get smaller and my stomach is even starting to firm up. I honestly have looked forward to my sessions with Rachael every week. I always feel relaxed and rejuvenated after each one, and better able to move and flex. But importantly, Rachaels attention to detail, her professionalism, her thorough understanding of the human body, and her calm and kind demeanour have made my entire experience an absolute dream. I will be continuing the treatment once a month from now on, and will do so with pleasure!
