Lines and wrinkles are a visual indication of the ageing process. They may be dynamic at first, only forming when you make certain facial expressions causing the overlying skin to wrinkle. However, over time, collagen and elastin start to degrade, and lines and wrinkles etch into the skin. Various factors contribute to the breakdown of youth-giving proteins making lines and wrinkles more pronounced around the eyes, forehead, brows, mouth, neck and chest.

    What Are The Symptoms?

Lines and wrinkles deepen and become more visible with the deterioration of collagen and elastin, and when the fibres in the connective tissue start to breakdown. Wrinkles may become more prominent where you have a lot of dynamic expression like the frown lines (glabellar lines), horizontal forehead lines, bunny lines (nose) and naso lines (smile lines around the mouth) as the skin loses its rebounding abilities. Facial expressions such as surprise, worry, excitement or frowning can cause these dynamic lines.

Static wrinkles are lines that remain visible in your skin when your muscles are relaxed. As these lines are more heavily formed on the skin, they are more challenging to treat.

Like the hands and face, the thin skin of the Y-zone (that comprises of your throat, lower part of the face and the top of the chest) and the eyes (especially the crow’s feet) is particularly susceptible to premature ageing. It has less elasticity than other parts of the body. These areas are the first places where lines and wrinkles become apparent.

    Who It Can Affect

Ageing affects everyone, and you might start to see signs of frown lines and forehead lines even as young as your late teens and early twenties. Throughout your life, you will find that ageing of the skin worsens-this isn’t just attributed to natural ageing and gravity, but numerous external influences and lifestyle choices.

    Causes

Lines and wrinkles form with intrinsic ageing – the natural process that causes the degeneration of skin cells and the slowing down of skin cell renewal. Extrinsic ageing, however, is mostly responsible for the onset of premature ageing.

The extrinsic ageing process is influenced by external forces and lifestyle choices that cause free radical damage and oxidative stress. Most free radical damage occurs due to sun damage, but other factors include pollution, stress, alcohol, smoking, pesticides, stress, unhealthy foods, illnesses, and exposure to other harmful chemicals.

This damage results in a breakdown of youth-giving collagen and elastic. When you’re younger, the skin has higher collagen levels allowing the impression lines to ‘bounce’ back, but as you age, these levels deplete. Collagen is the substance that keeps the skin looking firm and taut, while elastin keeps the skin looking bouncy and supple.

Ageing also causes the alteration of the skin cell renewal cycle and a reduced skin barrier function which is essential to keep our skin healthy and functioning at its best. Combined, these changes in the skin and its composition accelerate the ageing process, resulting in more prominent fine lines and wrinkles.

    Treatment Options

Treating lines and wrinkles often requires a combination approach, ongoing maintenance and prevention measures. The range of treatments available at 111 Harley St. ease lines and wrinkles by limiting expressive movement, restoring your skin’s function, resurfacing, and accelerating the growth of the two essential proteins that are responsible for a youthful appearance. Our practitioners, doctors or nurses will prescribe a bespoke maintenance product prescription to optimise your results and improve overall skin health..

    iPixel

    iPixel

Through resurfacing the skin, the iPixel treatment is designed to improve the quality and texture of the skin by inducing collagen production. The laser treatment will also encourage new elastin to build up in the treated area.

Your consultation will determine your suitability for treatment.

The nurse will apply a numbing cream to minimise discomfort during treatment. We will configure the depth depending on the area and concern, and the device will make a few passes over your skin, delivering bursts of energy.

After the iPixel treatment, you may notice square formations with tiny pinprick dots on the skin. The nurse will apply a topical serum to minimise these marks.

The fractional ablative laser treatment delivers precise beams of energy in a pixel-size formation to target specific cells. The surrounding cells remain intact, which speeds up healing. The heat from the energy destroys the injured or damaged cells and stimulates collagen production to remodel and fill in the area with new healthy cells.

Most patients require 4-8 sessions. One session every 4-6 weeks depending on the severity of the skin concern.

Numbing cream is applied for 20 minutes, followed by the treatment, which takes approximately 30 minutes.

    Chemical Skin Peels

    Skin Peels

By exfoliating the skin, chemical skin peels help to speed up the skin cell renewal cycle and remove the outermost layer of the skin to reveal a smoother skin surface. Our Enerpeel EL is particularly effective for reducing superficial lines and wrinkles around the eyes.

The treatment begins with a consultation where your practitioner will assess your skin to decipher your skin conditions and the best course of treatment.

Certain peels like Cosmelan or Enerpeel may require skin preparation with the use of at-home products in the lead up to your appointment. Your practitioner will prescribe a list of recommended products that will be suitable for you or provide you with the appropriate preparation kit.

If we’re treating you with a Cosmelan peel, we’ll require you to use a prepping de-pigmentation kit before your initial treatment to prepare your skin for the peel.

During your treatment, your practitioner will double cleanse and prepare the skin by applying a barrier cream around sensitive areas and remove all sebum to aid penetration of the acids.

Following this, we will apply the peel of choice and leave it on for a few minutes before neutralising or removing the peel. A neutraliser will prevent the acid from working on the skin, whereas a removal wipe will leave the acid active on the skin to continue improving the complexion following treatment.

Chemical skin peels are suitable for anyone who is looking for overall skin rejuvenation and an improvement in skin tone and texture. Or, those who have:

    • Acne
    • Acne scars
    • Pigmentation and sun-spots
    • Mild actinic keratosis
    • Moderate wrinkles or fine lines
    • Rosacea
    • Large or open pores
    • Crepey skin

The duration of the treatment will depend on your custom needs. Some peels may be left on for longer, depending on your needs and tolerance to treatment. Typically, it’ll take around 30 minutes.

Chemical skin peels vary in strength and substance and are either superficial, medium or deep depending on your skin concerns and skin type.

The acids and other active compounds react with the skin and dissolve the outermost layers of the skin to reveal a fresher, clearer and brighter complexion. Chemical skin peels also promote collagen and elastin growth that will encourage the growth of healthier skin.

    Meostherapy

    Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is an injectable treatment that enables deeper penetration of essential antioxidants and hyaluronic acid to counteract wrinkle-causing free radicals and keep the skin supple. This vitamin infusion treatment will rejuvenate the face and décolletage area by encouraging new collagen production and healthier, younger-looking skin with softened lines.

Mesotherapy is an injectable treatment that delivers a custom combination of skin-enhancing ingredients to your complexion.

During your consultation, we will discuss your skin concerns to determine which formulation the nurse will administer through your Mesotherapy treatment. It will usually contain a blend of hyaluronic acid, vitamins and amino acids.

Before your treatment, we may apply a topical numbing cream to your skin.

Through a series of fine injections, a bespoke blend of peptides, growth factors and antioxidants are delivered into the mesoderm (the middle layer of the skin) from between 1-4mm beneath your skin to improve skin quality and function.

This treatment takes approximately 30 minutes – 1 hour.

The skin’s barrier function plays a vital role in protecting your skin from environmental aggressors such as pollutants, UV damage and irritants. When working optimally, your skin counteracts the harmful free radical damage that scavenges your healthy skin cells. However, with natural ageing, sun damage and other external forces, your skin cell barrier function weakens.

Lipids made up of cholesterol, ceramides, and fatty acid form the barrier to prevent microrganisms and irritants entering the skin and protect it from Transepidermal water loss. When the skin barrier is weak, the skin can become dry, irritated and inflamed.

Mesotherapy is one way to encourage the restoration of your skin cell barrier function and restore your natural moisturising factors, to help bring your skin back to optimal health.

With over 60 different ingredient combinations, we can adapt the Mesotherapy to your skin’s needs. With an efficient transportation system and a surge in skin-loving ingredients, skin cell function improves, and the skin repair barrier becomes more resilient to environmental aggressors and other ageing factors.

Generally, a patient will need around ten sessions to see optimal results. The number of treatments required will vary from patient to patient, depending on the patient’s skin concerns.

These sessions are usually weekly for the first month, every two weeks over the second month, and sporadically from then onwards depending on how your skin responds to treatment.

    Botox

    Botox

Botox is one of the most reliable and effective ways to treat wrinkles caused by expressive movement like the bunny lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines and frown lines. The injectable treatment will inhibit the movement of these muscles so that the surface skin smoothes out.

Otherwise known as the ‘Nefertiti lift’, Botox can also soften wrinkles on the neck and chest area through relaxing the muscles and providing a lifting effect to the skin.

The process begins with a consultation where we will discuss your reason for treatment and determine whether you are a suitable candidate.

The practitioner will make a series of injections to administer the substance. We can apply a topical anaesthetic to minimise discomfort. The unit will vary depending on the size of the area and the severity of the concern. You may feel a very slight scratch as the injections enter the skin.

In some cases, the nurse may inject a lower dosage than initially expected – this is standard practice when treating forehead wrinkles, particularly if you have a small forehead. It is essential to assess how your muscles react to the treatment to avoid eyebrow or eyelid drooping. Your nurse will discuss a follow-up appointment to administer the rest of the Botox.

Botox treats wrinkles by targeting the underlying muscle that wrinkles the overlying skin. It restricts the contraction of the muscle, so the overlying skin appears smooth. By inhibiting this movement, the toxin can create many other positive aesthetic effects or have health benefits.

It can take up to 2 weeks to see the full effect of Botox depending on the size of the area treated and the condition. For Botox to the masseter, it can take four weeks, and calf muscles can take six weeks before you see results.

The permanency varies from patient to patient, but usually, Botox starts to wear off after around 12 weeks. Its longevity also depends on the strength of the muscle.

    Dermal Filler

    Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers work well on wrinkles that are static and have not responded well to Botox. Fillers can rejuvenate the face and décolletage to smooth and fill deeper lines and wrinkles and provide structural support for the face.

As the skin can become dry with ageing, fillers that contain hyaluronic acid are particularly effective because they give the skin an essential moisture boost which helps to fill out bothersome lines like lipstick lines and nasolabial lines.

Approximately 15-30 minutes, depending on the number of areas. Numbing cream will require an additional 20 minutes to apply before treatment.

You may experience redness, bruising and swelling following your treatment which should subside within 1-3 days.

Filler dissolves naturally over time. Your aesthetician will discuss the associated risks and side effects with you during your consultation.

Other side effects and risks include:

    • Pain
    • Tenderness
    • Firmness, lumps and bumps – lumps and bumps can often be massaged out and will settle within a week or two of treatment. For massaging instructions, you should consult your aesthetician. If the bumps remain, you may desire to have the bump dissolved.
    • Itching
    • Dryness – relatively common after lip fillers.
    • Tyndall effect causes a blue tinge that is visible through the skin and can occur as a complication of tear trough fillers. This effect is more likely to present itself if the patient has particularly thin skin, or if the filler is placed too superficially under the skin.
    • Blindness- It’s more likely to occur when injected into areas like the nose.
    • Tissue death – More likely to in injectable areas like the naso lines or nose.
    • Scarring
    • Scabbing
    • Infection

Dermal fillers are non-permanent with results lasting between 4-9 months depending on your metabolism and the type of filler. Lip fillers tend to break down slightly faster, lasting between 3-6 months. Some filler types offer more permanency, lasting up to a year. Longevity varies from patient to patient.

You may experience swelling and bruising around the injection site which should subside with a week.

    PRP

    Dermapen & PRP

The Dermapen causes small micro-injuries that encourages the healing process and boosts collagen and elasticity levels. By triggering the synthesis of a new skin matrix, this treatment helps to tighten the skin, while subtly plumping out fine lines with the new collagen. The treatment also enhances penetration and the rejuvenating effects of any anti-ageing products used after treatment. For optimal results, we combine Dermapen with PRP- an injectable treatment that rejuvenates the skin.

The Dermapen treatment usually begins with the application of a topical numbing cream. Using a hand-held pen-like device, the nurse will then make several passes over the entire face.

The collagen inducing Dermapen creates virtually invisible micro-injuries in the skin that ignite the body’s healing and regenerative processes. This influx of collagen and elastin and release of growth factors results in an improvement of overall skin smoothness, suppleness, and strength.

Additionally, the micro-channels allow for optimal absorption of active ingredients to enhance their results and increase their efficiency.

Immediately after the treatment, you may notice tiny pinpricks of blood. The nurse will usually pat the face down after which point; the skin will no longer draw blood.

Your skin may be red for up to 24 hours and will gradually resolve throughout the following week. It may also feel a little rough, warm and dry for the first couple of days after your treatment and may begin to flake.

We recommend 4-6 treatment sessions. Every four weeks.

I recently had a chemical peel with Rachael (told by my wife that I need one), and I’m so glad I did! The procedure itself was a bit uncomfortable, but Rachael gave me the cold air thing to help with the stinging sensation and the results are actually very visible. My skin is noticeably smoother, brighter, and more even-toned. I’ve also seen a significant reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. While I did experience some redness and peeling afterwards, it was worth it for the long-term benefits. I highly recommend this treatment to anyone looking to rejuvenate their skin.

Having Dermapen for my forehead wrinkles and sagging jowls. I’ve already seen an improvement from just two sessions with Samia. She is fantastic and very results driven. Can’t wait for my next session and to keep seeing the difference. My friends and husband have all said how fresh I look.
