Chin Liposuction is performed under local anaesthesia, but when it is combined with a Facelift or another more extensive procedure, we perform it under general anaesthesia – meaning you’ll be asleep.

A lot of our patients are initially apprehensive about having this surgery under local, as they are awake during the procedure, but we can assure you that you will not feel any discomfort as we will use local anaesthesia to numb the area. Our patients note that during the operation they can feel some sensations, such as pulling on the skin, but these should not be painful. If you feel any discomfort, simply tell Dr Yannis and our Surgical Nurse and they will numb the area more.

We additionally will cover your eyes as this will help you relax, play music, and be talking to you throughout your procedure to make sure you’re ok. When operations are undergone under local, it will feel almost akin to a trip to the dentist rather than to a Plastic Surgery theatre.

What can you eat after Chin Liposuction? A lot of patients want to know this which is why we recommend that after Chin Liposuction, you should try to eat soft foods and liquids; like soups, smoothies, purees, protein shakes – anything that does not promote too much movement of the jaw. Alongside excessive chewing being potentially painful for the first week post-Chin Liposuction, the main reason we advise a soft food diet is to help accelerate your recovery as if your body has to digest hard foods this essentially uses energy that could be spent on healing the chin.

We recommend wearing this for one-week post-op, and then after that wearing it for a few hours a day or just to sleep in. Compression garments are worn to apply pressure to the skin to reduce swelling and help to reduce soreness, so they are a great tool to use post-Liposuction.

Usually how long you’ll have to wear this for depends on how fast your recovery is, some patients have a great lymphatic system so they may not develop many visible signs of surgery; such as bruising or swelling. Whereas others in the days following may experience both of these signs – which is very common and usually subsides in a week or so, post-op.

Chin Liposuction, however, is generally thought of as a low-recovery surgery, and patients will be able to see an improvement in their chin definition and neck contour once the swelling has gone (which can take around 1-2 weeks).
