Dermal fillers are non-permanent with results lasting between 9-12 months depending on your metabolism and the type of filler. Lip Fillers tend to break down slightly faster, lasting between 3-6 months. Some filler types offer more permanency, lasting up to a year. Longevity varies from patient to patient.

Fillers can break down faster or slower depending on your metabolic rate (how fast you break down the filler).

Here is a breakdown of some of the fillers we use in our clinic and their longevity:

    • Volite – 9 months
    • Volbella – 12 months
    • Volift – 18 months
    • Voluma – 24 months
    • Volux – 18-24 months
    • Restylane® – 6-9 months

You may experience swelling and bruising around the injection site which should subside with a week.

Dermal Fillers are not permanent and if you dislike your result and find yourself asking if Dermal Fillers can be dissolved, they can! We can dissolve our hyaluronic acid fillers with hyaluronidase (Hyalase).

Technically, anyone can perform the treatment, so it’s essential that you seek out a certified Doctor or nurse who has a wealth of experience in delivering high standards to minimise risks and unwanted side effects. Undesirable results and side effects sometimes occur as a result of inexperience, improper technique and lack of patient care. At 111 Harley St., our team of Doctors and Aesthetic Nurses are all fully trained and qualified.

Due to the lack of control and regulation relating to who can administer dermal fillers, we advise that you avoid bargain offers and always ensure you ask to see the safety seal on the box to prove the product is genuine.

You should avoid at-home visits, and for your safety, have the treatment within a clinical and sterile environment. Research the clinic, and ensure it is reputable by checking the reviews. Request before and after photos to gage an idea of the results you can expect, and to determine how many treatments they’ve done.

Strive for a natural result. Anything that is too prominent or too far removed from your natural features will look unnatural.

Our fillers all hold FDA approval so they have passed the rigorous clinical trials necessary to deem safe for us on the skin.

The lips are one of the most sensitive areas when it comes to fillers, though many patients report the sensation as a mild discomfort. Pain is subjective, though we can apply a topical numbing cream before treatment to minimise discomfort. Juvéderm and Restylane contain Lidocaine which will reduce the sensation.

We do not advise treatment for pregnant women or women that are breastfeeding as the effects are unknown. You should also avoid the treatment if you have a history of severe allergies or anaphylaxis.

You may experience redness, bruising and swelling following your treatment which should subside within 1-3 days.

Filler dissolves naturally over time. Your aesthetician will discuss the associated risks and side effects with you during your consultation.

Other side effects and risks include:

    • Pain
    • Tenderness
    • Firmness, lumps and bumps – lumps and bumps can often be massaged out and will settle within a week or two of treatment. For massaging instructions, you should consult your aesthetician. If the bumps remain, you may desire to have the bump dissolved.
    • Itching
    • Dryness – relatively common after lip fillers.
    • Tyndall effect causes a blue tinge that is visible through the skin and can occur as a complication of tear trough fillers. This effect is more likely to present itself if the patient has particularly thin skin, or if the filler is placed too superficially under the skin.
    • Blindness- It’s more likely to occur when injected into areas like the nose.
    • Tissue death – More likely to in injectable areas like the naso lines or nose.
    • Scarring
    • Scabbing
    • Infection

    Types Of Dermal Filler Procedures

There are several types of dermal fillers that our Aesthetic Nurses use at 111 Harley St. Some fillers have a thinner consistency and are more pliable, making them useful for moulding such as when shaping the lips. In contrast, others have a thicker consistency and are ideal for treating hollow areas like the temples. Juvéderm fillers contain various molecular weights and textures, so the application and use can be adapted to different areas and requirements to achieve the most natural-looking results.

    Types of Filler

JUVEDERM VYCROSS, RESTYLANE & REDENSITY 2

These Dermal Fillers contain the naturally occurring substance hyaluronic acid, which provides immense hydration for the skin. The body’s hyaluronic acid levels deplete with age, contributing to the onset of wrinkles, dehydrated skin and loss of volume. Hyaluronic acid fillers can restore lost facial volume, smooth lines and plump facial hollows for a more youthful appearance.

Juvéderm Vycross fillers cross-links hyaluronic acid to make a smoother, longer-lasting filler type. The range includes Juvéderm Voluma, Juvéderm Volbella and Juvéderm Volift.

    JUVÉDERM VOLUX
Best for: Restoring facial volume in the chin and jawline.

With a thicker consistency, the Dermal Filler can redefine the chin, cheeks and jawline.

    Before and after Chin Filler

    JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA
Best for: Lips and fine lines around the mouth.

Juvéderm Volbella is a smooth filler making it easier to fill thin areas of the skin such as the crow’s feet and to enhance and redefine the lips

    JUVÉDERM VOLIFT
Best for: Restoring facial volume in the forehead, chin, cheeks and jawline.

With a thicker consistency, the Dermal Filler can redefine the chin, cheeks and jawline. It’s also very effective for filling in hollow areas like the temples.

    JUVÉDERM VOLUMA
Best for: Lifting sagging cheeks, reshaping the nose & filling lines in the lower face.

Juvéderm Voluma is a cohesive filler that can act as a scaffolding to subtly lift the skin and restore volume. Due to its restructuring ability, it’s also very effective for reshaping the nose.

    TEOXANE REDENSITY 2
    Best for: Tear troughs.

Teoxane Redensity 2 is the only FDA approved filler for treating the delicate under-eye area.

    RESTYLANE LYFT
Best for: Reshaping the nose, ageing hands, naso lines, and cheek enhancement.

Restylane Lyft is particularly effective for restoring lost volume in areas such as the hands and the cheeks.

    RADIESSE
Best For: Moderate to deep lines, and reshaping the nose, chin and jaw.

Radiesse is a filler that is made of phosphate and calcium, both naturally occurring substances within the body. The filler is longer lasting than hyaluronic acid and can be more suitable for shaping the nose, chin and jaw, or filling moderate to severe folds like the nasolabial lines.

Are Dermal Fillers the same as Botox?

There’s a lot of debate surrounding Botox and dermal fillers, and while the two are similar in some ways – both being injectables – their contents and the effects they produce are completely different.

With dermal filler injections – or with any soft tissue fillers – they are largely hyaluronic acid-based and, as a lot of people know, hyaluronic acid is an aesthetic and skincare hero. It is found in the body naturally and is famed in the industry for its plumping and supreme hydration retention abilities.

So, when injected into soft epidermal tissue (on the face and body), the hyaluronic acid attracts water molecules and can physically fill the space between wrinkles or in areas that have lost collagen and need more volume. This is why dermal fillers are extremely effective in facial sculpting and can help you achieve a more contoured, defined look.

Botox, on the other hand, contains a substance called botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin works by restricting the production of the neurotransmitter responsible for triggering muscle movement – temporarily weakening the muscles and smoothening any wrinkles or fine lines in the process. Botox, therefore, is better known as an anti wrinkle injection.

One similarity between botox and dermal fillers is that both are extremely versatile and able to target multiple concerns. However, if you’re looking for a re-volumizing, replenishing and sculping injectable then dermal filler injections are for you.
