A Mini Facelift is a less invasive version of a traditional Facelift and works to treat the moderate signs of jowling and advanced wrinkling – it’s ideal for improving the signs of facial ageing.

This type of Facelift is a ‘lite’ version of our traditional Facelift, medically known as a Rhytidectomy, which has amazing age-reversing results as it works to reposition and elevate the skin, muscles, fat pads and soft tissues into a more youthful position.

All our Facial Surgeries will be performed by our triple board-certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr Yannis who is also the Founder and Medical Director of 111 Harley St. As a globally-known Plastic Surgeon and creator of the celeb-loved skincare 111SKIN, Dr Yannis’ aesthetic expertise is sought-out by a range of VIPs.

    Facelift Before and After Photos

This procedure is ideal for someone looking for natural rejuvenation and one of the benefits of a Mini Facelift are that any signs of surgery are discrete. If you’re wondering whether you are ready for a Facelift, you can ask yourself the following questions as these are all common signs that you’re ready for an anti-ageing procedure like a Facelift.

Are you ready for a Facelift? You may be if:

✓ Your lower face is visibly jowling
✓ You have a double chin, or there’s less distinction and definition between the face and neck
✓ You have prominent nasolabial folds
    ✓ Overall droopier mid-face

A Mini Facelift can be beneficial for someone looking to prevent the development of prominent lines, wrinkles or folds. It is usually the late 30s or mid 40s where someone might benefit from a Mini Facelift – however, even at this age some people require more of an advanced surgical intervention depending on genetic and lifestyle factors that can contribute to a prematurely aged appearance.

Some of the things a Mini or Full Facelift can improve are the appearance of:

    ✓ Skin laxity

✓ The visibility of lines and wrinkles and jowls

✓ Excess skin below the eyelids (A Facelift combined with a Blepharoplasty can give the best results for this concern)

    ✓ Drooping mouth corners

✓ Hollowing in the tear trough area (this can also be improved with Facial Fat Injections)

    ✓ Crepiness

    ✓ Loss of volume

How does a Mini Facelift work?

A Mini Facelift works in a similar way to a Full Facelift but on a less invasive level, so rather than tighten the deeper muscles in the skin like a Deep Plane Facelift would, a Mini Facelift can alter the SMAS and epidermis – the first few layers of skin – so it works on a more superficial basis but can still give great anti-ageing results.

The SMAS is a network of fibrous tissues beneath the skin, so by tightening the SMAS you can still achieve a natural tautness that does not look pulled or tight. The main incisions made during a Mini Facelift are usually behind the ear and hidden beneath the hairline. Although this will be confirmed during your initial Facelift consultation with Dr Yannis. It is also during the consultation where Dr Yannis will be able to outline whether a surgical route is necessary, or whether you can benefit from a Non-Surgical treatment to help reduce the signs or ageing, or even suggest another Facelift technique, such as the Deep Plane Facelift which is known for its results longevity.

    Mini Facelift FAQs

During the consultation, we will perform an analysis of the facial anatomy and the changes to the structure that signify ageing.  Sometimes this procedure can be combined with a Brow Lift and Neck Lift to achieve optimal results.

We can perform a Mini Facelift as a day case procedure under local anaesthesia.

Generally, the operation aims to lift the skin by separating it from the fat and muscle below. The surgeon will tighten the underlying SMAS muscle and membrane, hoisting and trimming the excess skin.

Depending on the method adopted, the surgeon may staple the incision or use non-dissolvable sutures to close the incision around the ears. Our Surgical team will remove the stitches or staples within two weeks after surgery, depending on the speed of your skin healing.

Occasionally, we may place a temporary drain under the skin behind your ear following the surgery to

We may recommend a minimally invasive procedure like Submental Liposuction to combine with your Mini Facelift as when done expertly by Dr Yannis, Chin Liposuction can give Neck Lift-like results! Around the neck and chin to improve the contour of the jawline. In other instances, you could combine the operation with a Fat Transfer to restore volume to the facial contours. Or, with a Brow Lift and Blepharoplasty to address ageing around the eyes.

A Mini Facelift works by minimises scarring, concealing the incision site as much as possible. Usually, incisions are placed within the hairline or behind the earlobes, and the soft tissues (and occasionally muscle) are lifted. Dissolvable sutures secure the skin in place. As the incisions are much shorter, the results of a Mini Facelift are less dramatic but still noticeable and natural.

Immediately! After the first day you’ll notice more definition of the jawline and reduction in wrinkles. You will be begin to notice more and more the positive effects of your surgery and the people around you may comment on how youthful and fresh you look.

The outcome of a Mini Facelift depends on several variables. Gravity, ageing, and other external and lifestyle forces will play a pivotal role in how long your facelift lasts.

Results for a Mini Facelift are at their best for around eight years after the operation, whereas, a traditional facelift will preserve the skin for approximately ten years. Over the years, a patient who has had a facelift will still experience weakening of the muscles and skin laxity and may wish to repeat the operation in the years to come.

Most patients return to work between 1-2 weeks after the operation. Swelling, bruising and numbness after a traditional facelift typically last for 6-8 weeks which will subside gradually. Significant swelling should subside within 10-14 days. We will require you to wear a facial support garment for 24 hours. Numbness may take 4-6 weeks to resolve. Overall recovery usually takes around two weeks, and vigorous activity can resume after four weeks. Sutures are removed about 5 to 10 days after surgery.

We will provide you with aftercare instructions following your procedure. However, general recommendations and aftercare advice include trying to keep the head elevated and as still as possible for a couple of days after surgery.

This depends, usually we say around 1-2 hours.

The incisions and scarring vary depending on the case. They’re usually inconspicuously made around the ear, concealed within their natural folds. They often begin just above the hairline at the temples, extending in a natural line from the front of the ear just inside the cartilage and continuing behind the earlobe to the lower scalp.

We usually recommend the use of our LED Light treatment to help minimise scarring and Lympathic Drainage to reduce swelling and water retention that can cause the skin to look puffier than it is. We also advocate the use of our complimentary Dramatic Healing Serum – the product contains healing ingredients proven to reduce the appearance of scarring.

Radiofrequency treatments, like Potenza, combined with conservative use of Anti-Wrinkle Injections and Fillers can preserve the quality of the skin to ward off skin laxity and improve structure and support.

We advocate many non-surgical approaches such as the Soft Thread Lift, Profhilo, the 8-point liquid facelift and laser treatments that all provide excellent results for addressing volume loss, and softening the appearance of mild jowls, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines. However, surgical intervention will always offer the best and most permanent outcome for extensive facial sagging. A traditional facelift can improve sagging neck skin and platysma vertical neck bands, where non-surgical methods aren’t successful with these concerns.

A consultation will help determine which course of action would be most suited to your needs. Here, we will take your age, skin damage and quality, volume loss, the elasticity of the skin, lifestyle factors, any pre-existing facial asymmetries and your mental health into consideration.

Age is not the factor to decide if your skin is suitable to have Facelift surgery. The condition of your skin is the key indication for a Facelift. If you see a significant sagging, wrinkles, loose skin, or jowling, you are suitable for Facelift surgery.

    Other Popular Facelift Techniques

Deep Plane and Extended Deep Plane

The Deep Plane Facelift is a type of advanced facelift, medically known as a Rhytidectomy, that produces dramatic and rejuvenating results. It works by gently revealing the anatomical plane between the muscles, the skin’s plasma, and fibrous tissue, known as the SMAS, and then uniquely lifts all elements vertically for an immediate result. By working under the muscles, it means the skin will maintain a sense of naturalness and won’t look too tight or stretched – and of course, our top Harley Street surgeon, Dr Yannis, will ensure tension-free movement with any of his facelift procedures.

Deep Plane Facelift vs. Extended Deep Plane Facelift

The extended version offers a more rejuvenated result, but means the facial incision is lengthened. However, Dr Yannis will ensure any incision made follows the skin’s natural lines and folds for maximum discretion.

    The Deep Plane Facelift Process

Dr Yannis talks about his surgical process behind this patient’s results.

“This gentleman was complaining about the ageing appearance of his face. He came to me because he was bothered about the deep nasolabial folds, the flat appearance of his zygomatic arches, the hooded eyelids, and the receding hairline.

After the initial consultation, my plan was a brow lift, upper blepharoplasty, face and neck lift performed in the deep plane extended manner, and fat injections to the face. This is his early results, only two weeks after surgery, where you can see improvement of the ratio of the forehead now been shortened and in line with the mid face and the lower face.

The patient appears at least 15 years younger, even at this early stage of recovery.”

    Y Facelift

Dr Yannis is the pioneer of this lower face lift approach, developed with his deep understanding of the ageing process and facial anatomy, and the aim of offering the best results with minimal downtime. This technique addresses sagging in the lower face and neck region. It is called the Y Facelift because of how the shape of the Y mimics the areas that Dr Yannis targets in each operation. Notice how the part of the letter looks like where the end of the jawline meets the ear on the face, and how the tail extends down – just like the neck does.

One benefit of this treatment is that it provides more contour and definition to the area, providing a natural and rejuvenated look. The incision is disguised in the fold of the ear and behind the ear. This patient had a Y Facelift and below is the discrete incision made:

See this patients results below, she combined a rhinoplasty with a face and neck lift for optimal results. The final results have helped optimise her facial harmony and enhanced her features, creating a total transformation that has refreshed this patients look.

    Full Facelift

A traditional facelift will work on the full face, addressing both the ageing of the lower and upper face, brows and neck. The surgeon will remove excess skin, and usually lift the muscles and skin together (in what’s known as the ‘dual pane facelift’ or a ‘deep plane facelift’), elevating the skin into a more youthful position. The surgeon will make incisions either inside the ear or in front of the ear, extending along the natural crease behind the earlobe. The approach will vary from patient-to-patient and may combine a brow lift, neck lift and sub-mental liposuction to enhance the overall result.

Our total, 360-degree approach to facelifts means that whatever your concern, Dr Yannis will be able to assess your appearance and recommend the surgical paths that would benefit you, target your concerns and meet your expectations most. Creating bespoke surgical plans is what we do best at 111 Harley St.

    SMAS Facelift

A SMAS facelift addresses ageing in both the upper and lower face. In contrast to a full facelift, it separates the skin and muscle, so that they can be improved as separate entities. The surgeon will tighten and manipulate the muscles, and redrape the skin before removing the excess, concealing the incisions as much as possible. The benefits of this approach are that it provides long-lasting and natural-looking results. Dr Yannis Alexandrides usually incorporates SMAS into most of the surgeries to achieve the best results. This technique is similarily used during a Deep Plane Facelift.
