    Rhinoplasty

111 Harley St. are rated an average of 5 out of 5 based on 1376 reviews

A Rhinoplasty, or nose correction surgery, can widely improve the aesthetic appearance of the nose and solve most cosmetic concerns that you may have surrounding it.

As the nose sits centrally on the face, it is often the first thing we look at when meeting somebody new or looking at a face in general, which is why Dr Yannis specialises in this type of surgery. Knowing the large role the nose plays in achieving a harmonious facial aesthetic and ratio, Dr Yannis will be able to expertly analyse your appearance and outline the best course of action to achieve your ideal shape, projection and profile.

This operation can alter the shape, size and projection of the bridge, nasal tip and septum. We tailor the surgical approach to your individual concerns, facial proportions and goals and may combine techniques to achieve the best aesthetic outcome. Your nose restructuring surgery begins with a consultation which will determine the surgical technique required. During this time, we will discuss your goals, expectations and suitability. We will also assess your facial anatomy and address any potential limitations.

Your procedure will involve either an open or closed surgical approach. An open rhinoplasty gives the surgeon more visibility of the nasal structure. During a closed rhinoplasty, the surgeon will make an incision inside the nostrils. Or, for an open rhinoplasty, the incision will be on the underside of the middle area between your nostrils.

Revision rhinoplasty procedures can be more complicated. It’s not always possible to correct the nose until a year has passed following the initial surgery. This time allows any issues connected with it to become fully apparent.

    Rhinoplasty FAQ’s

At 111 Harley St. we offer a complimentary 3D virtual consultation where the surgeon will manipulate an image of your nose using our simulation software to provide you with a visual indication of your post-operative rhinoplasty result.

The operation usually requires general anaesthesia but we can also offer local anaesthesia. Depending on your needs, the surgical approach will vary. This might include:

    • Trimming and repositioning the cartilage for tip elevation or reduction.
    • Dorsum reduction for a reduction in the size of the nose or shape of the bridge.
    • Altering the septum to address breathing difficulties.
    • Tip restoration and reconstruction using cartilage to restore its shape. It may be necessary to use a nasal implant to reshape the nose.
    • Alar base reduction surgery to reduce the size of the nostrils.

Improvements will be visible upon the removal of your cast. Over six months to a year, your nose will continue to change shape. During this time, swelling should reduce and you should start to see the final results towards the end of 1 year.

The results of a rhinoplasty procedure last a lifetime; however, as you age, the cartilage and underlying bone structure can begin to weaken, which can cause the nasal tip to droop ever-so-slightly. Other changes could occur if you broke or damaged your nose in some way.

The speed of recovery varies from patient to patient. We may require you to wear a nasal splint for the first week following your operation.

Swelling and significant bruising around the eye and nose area may occur and will continue to improve over the course of 2-3 weeks. Discomfort may be felt during this time. Numbness felt at the tip of the nose is normal, and will resolve over a few weeks. Some patients can experience a stuffy sensation up the nostrils, and the nose may become runny with fluid or blood.

As with all surgeries, there are risks. Some of the risks may include:

    Unsatisfactory result
    Anaesthesia risks
    Infection
    Poor wound healing or scarring
Difficulty breathing – stuffy sensation up the nose which can also be linked to your sinuses.
    Numbness or pain
    Perforated septum
    Skin discolouration
    Pollybeak deformity

A closed incision will leave no visible remaining scars. This approach may be taken if the surgeon needs to remove cartilage or changes to the bone structure need to be made.

An open incision will leave a minimal scar that is virtually undetectable to the naked eye. This option is usually favourable if the surgeon needs to reconstruct the nasal tip.

Yes. A Rhinoplasty can have aesthetic and respiratory benefits on the nose, where alongside changing the shape of the nose, many patients also report that they can breathe easier after a Rhinoplasty.

Generally, a Rhinoplasty will not change your voice but may have positive impact on a very nasal-sounding voice. During a Rhinoplasty, Dr Yannis is able to resolve blockages or structural problems (such as a deviated septum), which may resolve a nasal voice.

Immediately after a Rhinoplasty you can expect your voice to sound more congested than usual and this is very normal too. You’ll be congested because of the splint and packing placed in the nose to keep it in place and protected after surgery. Once this is removed your voice will be back to normal.

Mentions of Rhinoplasty go back to as far as 2500 BCE where people where reported to repair a broken nose. Generally, mentions of Rhinoplasty are littered throughout history, for example, some people even wore fake metal noses instead of having a nose operation.

The word Rhinoplasty was derived from the Greek words rhis meaning nose, and plassein meaning to shape, however, Rhinoplasty techniques were refined by surgeons like Karl von Grafe (Germany) Joseph Constantine Carpue (UK) and Gasparo Tagliacozza (Italy).

With every surgery there are risks involved, however, the space of risk gets smaller and smaller when performed by an experienced surgeon – like Dr Yannis.

The first few days after a Rhinoplasty are usually the worse as this is when your nose will be quite achy and sore. However, as each day passes, you can expect your nose to feel better and better.

    Rhinoplasty Techniques

    Preservation Rhinoplasty

An ultra-advanced version of the Rhinoplasty that harnesses the power of a Piezo. A Piezo is an instrument that emits ultrasonic wavelengths directly to the bone to trim and sculpt – without disrupting the nerve endings and causing dramatic trauma. Also known as an ‘ultrasonic rhinoplasty’ it works within the nose and offers more accuracy, finesse and faster recovery.

    Reduction Rhinoplasty

This surgery aims to reduce the overall size and volume of the nose. Reducing the size of the nose can dramatically improve the proportions and visual harmony of the face. The approach to surgery usually involves reducing the size of the nostrils, and we’ll also resolve irregularities and bumps on the bridge of the nose if necessary.

    Augmentation Rhinoplasty

Augmentation rhinoplasty, also known as nose correction surgery, involves altering the nose to improve its shape. This approach would be suitable for patients who feel that their nose lacks definition, length, or has another undesirable shape. It’s also suitable for those with congenital abnormalities. This surgery enhances and augments the nose by using autogenous tissues or a silicone implant. The surgeon may decide to perform bone grafting on the nose to recreate the tip.

    Alar Reduction

Alar Reduction (also called an Alarplasty) focuses on the width of the base of the nose and nostrils. During this procedure, the surgeon would narrow the width of the nostril base.

    Tip Refinement

For aesthetic changes associated with the nasal tip, a tip refinement surgery may be the procedure of preference. A tip refinement works with the lower third of the nose, preserving the rest of the nasal structure. This procedure would be best for those with a large or bulbous nasal tip.

This is an increasingly popular treatment as cultural ideals of beauty have now shifted towards a narrower nose and slightly elevated tip. This is why we have specifically created a Nose Tip lift to target this increasingly demanded type of nose surgery.

    Post-Trauma Rhinoplasty

Post-trauma rhinoplasty addresses previous trauma to the nose when its structure has been damaged. An earlier accident may have led to changes in shape or asymmetry. The surgeon will, therefore, rebuild the nose to restore its original appearance as much as possible.

    Revision Rhinoplasty

Dr Yannis Alexandrides has extensive experience in reconstructive surgery and in craniofacial reconstructive surgery and has performed multiple corrective operations on patients with severe injuries and congenital abnormalities.

    Septorhinoplasty

A septorhinoplasty reshapes your nose and your septum (the cartilage that divides the two nostrils inside the nose). It can alter the appearance of your nose and improve breathing difficulties. This type of surgery addresses both aesthetic and medical concerns.

This type of treatment can also help improve the look of narrow nostrils – known as nostril widening surgery – which can be a solution to both cosmetic and medical concerns. During a nostril widening surgery, Dr Yannis will widen the nasal value and reshape the nostrils into your more desired appearance. Plus, thanks to immense technological advancements, widening the nasal canal is much less intrusive than what it originally was. By using an ultrasonic tool called a Piezo, Dr Yannis will be able to widen the nasal value atraumatically.

    Septoplasty

A septoplasty does not address cosmetic concerns, but instead, corrects a deviated septum and improves the nasal passages which can improve breathing and prevent snoring. It’s less invasive than other rhinoplasty approaches when performed on its own, but many patients opt to combine it with other techniques to improve the appearance nose.

I really think highly of the aesthetic judgement of the nurse in 111Harley street as I received non-surgical rhinoplasty there. It’s very natural, not exaggerated. And the service there is excellent! It’s friendly to foreign customer since Miss Bonnie is a brilliant and patient interpreter.

This is something I really wanted done for ten years and I’m really happy I finally got round to getting it done. 3 weeks post op currently and I can’t wait to see how the remaining 12 months go.
