Post Lockdown Treatments

After over eight weeks of being indoors on lockdown, your skin may be looking a little lax, with fine lines and wrinkles re-emerging. There are several skin concerns you may be battling with during this time. Still, thankfully our lead injector and practitioners have devised a combination treatment approach to lift and enliven the skin.

From stress and sleepless nights to skincare overhauls, some of the factors that may have disrupted your skin include…

Post-Lockdown Treatment Suggestions

SUGAR RUSH

Many of us will have experienced an increase in extra sugars after finding a new-found love for baking, wine and banana bread during lockdown. This spike in insulin weakens the proteins that we rely on for building collagen and elastin. With this depletion, you might expect to see fine lines and wrinkles and a loss of skin firmness.Another significant effect that sugar has on the skin is increasing inflammation. Consequently, you might expect more breakouts or flare-ups of skin conditions like eczema or dermatitis.Profhilo is an injectable treatment that differs from dermal fillers as it works to tighten and lift lax skin, as well as improve skin quality for overall rejuvenation. It’s an excellent treatment for both the face and the neck. Thermage is an alternative radiofrequency treatment option that will give lifting and tightening results (and we can optimise the treatment with Mesotherapy to revive sluggish cells and re-strengthen your repair barrier). Lastly, Botox can alleviate the stress furrows that may have started to form between the brows. Some will have been fortunate enough to have spent a lot of time in the sun recently, and Botox will also help to soften the crow’s feet that you might see around the eyes.

STRESS AND SLEEPLESS NIGHTS

A lack of sleep can prevent skin healing and recovering efficiently. When coupled with worry, an inflammatory response can occur. The skin regenerates and resurfaces overnight, and we can emulate this reparative response with PRP treatment. By using your platelets, the body utilises its healing properties to recover from damage and inflammation, for a glow-inducing result. With the use of dermal filler, we can also restore facial volume and reduce the dark circles, emphasised by many sleepless nights.

SKINCARE OVERLOAD

The extra time on our hands has seen some of us overhauling our skincare regimes and experimenting with active ingredients. However, the experimentation with acids or other exfoliating agents could disrupt PH levels, leading to an impaired barrier function. When the skin barrier function becomes compromised, you may see flaking, dryness, redness, pimples and skin conditions like dermatitis. Mesotherapy is an injectable treatment that fortifies and restores the skin’s barrier function while improving hydrations levels and preventing further damage to the skin in the future. Combining the treatment with Thermage will also give an overall de-puffing and lifting effect.   TO BOOK A TREATMENT, PLEASE CALL 0344 692 1111.

Keep your arms elevated at a slight angle away from the body when posing for the photo to ensure they are not obstructing the view of the body.

Take three shots – one facing the camera and two from a side angle. Try to maintain your posture as you turn to take the side views on the left and right.

  6. Placing the camera on a shelf may help if you’re taking the photo on self-timer
  7. Positioning the camera 2-6ft is usually an adequate position
  8. You may wish to take a few practice shots before you begin

3 things we can all learn from Asian skincare regimes

asian

You’d be forgiven if you’ve ever mistaken someone with an Asian origin for looking younger than they are. Some are genetically blessed with smooth and poreless skin that never seems to age. Many are on an ever-lasting quest to find the secret to looking younger, so when it seems to come without much effort for those with Asian heritage, it can induce envy in many of us.

A prime example of a beautiful Asian woman who looks much younger than she is, is Lure Hsu; an Interior designer from Taiwan. Whilst many of you might mistake her for a teenager, Lure Hsu is actually 41 years old. Her beauty and youthful look is astonishing and you might find it unbelievable that someone has managed to maintain seemingly ageless skin…so, just how does she do it? Here are 3 tips that we can all learn from Asian skincare regimes, including Lure Hsu’s:

Many Asians practise sun protection religiously, and believe that sun protection will help in maintaining not only a youthful appearance, but also an even complexion. Whilst many of us are aware that sun damage can accelerate ageing, not all of us are aware of how this happens or the indications of ageing. Signs such as patchy skin, redness, spider veins and pigmentation can all be tale-tale signs of ageing… and it’s often caused by sun damage.

Lure Hsu maintains a healthy diet of fruit, protein and vegetables and avoids sugary foods. Refined sugar is known to cause the process of glycation – this can speed up the onset of ageing factors such as: dry skin, fine lines and wrinkles and can also increase oil production, leading to higher chances of breakouts (note; less open pores).

Sheet masks have become increasingly popular in the UK, but did you know they were originally designed in Korea? The sheets allow greater absorption of the ingredients for greater efficiency. Many Koreans swear by daily use of the face masks, but if you feel this is too excessive, use twice a week.

Keeping your cool at 30°

cool
This week, temperatures will soar to up to 30 degrees. In a typically British manner, many of us have eagerly anticipated the arrival of summer for the duration of the year, yet now find it too hot to handle. Traffic seems to come to a standstill, and journeys become longer… trains become delayed, and with that, we come hot, stressed and flustered; but don’t lose your cool! Here are our top treatment suggestions to deal with the heat:

The sun may increase endorphin levels, but the opposite can happen when you’re not getting enough (safe) exposure to it. Unfortunately, when working a 9-5 in the UK, it’s just our luck that as soon as the weekend arrives the sun seems to disappear, then during the week we’re stuck inside on glorious days. This can leave feelings of guilt, and stress can be heightened as workloads increase and journey times lengthen, making us lose our cool. There are of course a number of alternative reasons as to why you may be stressed… in a few short minutes the Mood Balancer IV dripfusion can improve your mood, concentration levels and energy by delivering Glutamine, Camitine and Ornithine straight to the bloodstream.

Whilst many of us strive for that summer glow, we also don’t want to look shiny. Oil production can increase during the summer months, but you can keep this under control with Isolaz sessions. The laser treatment will minimize the chances of breakouts and greasiness by killing bacteria and getting rid of excess sebum.

Keeping sweat under control can be embarrassing and stressful for those suffering from Hyperhidrosis. Those who have Hyperhidrosis may try to find respite from the scorching heat by seeking out cool places, but there’s a simpler solution; Botox can reduce sweat production by up to 90% with results lasting for the duration of the summer (6 months).

You may hide behind your shades when the sun comes out, but that doesn’t always deter superficial lines from forming. Mainly, we squint as a reflex to the bright light causing crow’s feet to develop with the repetitive movement. These lines become deeper and ageing becomes accelerated when we forget to use SPF protection, as the UV exposure causes collagen and elasticity to the breakdown in this delicate area. Whilst sunglasses can decrease the amount of sunlight coming in, it’s difficult to wear them at all times. Therefore, Botox can be injected into targeted areas to relax these muscles around the eye and smooth out wrinkles.
